A few years back I replaced the HDD in my Macbook Pro with an OWC SSD and never looked back. I'm never owning a laptop without one again! I haven't done an official benchmark test, but the speed improvement - particularly with larger apps like MS Office, Audio processing, etc - it was fantastic and worth every penny.
I bought mine from here and would definitely recommend them.

Waste of time on a desktop, he's not building a server..lol and the speeds on a good quality SSD are more than adequate. Price wise also not viablemuch prefer striped raid to get reliable speed increases

Their all the same to "plug in", as for most reliable from my experience yes they are great. When it comes to fastest, that opens up a whole new can of worms, many factors to consider. An SSD will still kick the butt of any HDD plus the speed difference from fastest SSD to slowest SSD is a poofteenth so its not really an issue.
