    Dell Optiplex power supply

Dell Optiplex 745 (can be seen in just about every Govt Dept.)
In this PC I will repair the faulty power supply unit, or will replace it.
Does anyone know how the power supply is removed from the case ?
I've removed the only two visible fastening screws located on the back panel, but it's still firmly in place.

I don't know anyone who would get a power supply repaired. They're pretty much a throw away replacement item. Like most things in a PC. I can't be sure in your case, but in my limited Dell experience, they make the power supply in such a way that you need to buy a genuine Dell part and not a generic in order for it to fit properly in the case. That might not be true in your case. Power supplies are generally reasonably cheap though. Like anything though, you can spend a lot of money on them if you wish. In high end equipment, that argument can be made, but for a general machine, it is a waste.

You need a genuine dell as they are both sized differently and by memory after unscrewing you also may need to remove half the other stuff. I have a Opti GX620 and you need to pull the dvd drive, hdd and mounts and then the PS slides forward into the space where these were. They could have made it slide sideways and just needed to pull the ram but no.

I'm not using the GX unit you can have it if it's any use.

OK, many thanks. That could be the go. I'll be in touch.
