Hi Guys
I just bought Ian a new HTC phone and was wondering as I have seen AVG in the app store whether anyone actually runs antivirus on their phones or not.
and if you do or dont how many of you use your phone for banking?

Really? I stopped using it years ago in favor of Avast, but have been running Microsoft Security Essentials since release, and it seems to be fine. Despite venturing to some very dubious sites - purely for testing purposes- When I run other scanning tools they always show up blank.
I have been running AVG on my phone for the last couple of months. Not due to any issue, rather, I saw it and thought, "why not"
It has never picked anything up, but that said, I am fussy about what I download.
As for banking, I only ever do it on a pc that I know is safe. I wouldn't ever do it on my phone.

INTERNATIONAL crime groups are hijacking Victorian mobile phone numbers to rip off bank accounts in the latest internet scams.
Using a tactic known as "phone porting," one instance has seen a Melbourne victim lose $45,000 from a bank account after criminals redirected the mobile phone number to a pre-purchased phone to receive personal details, Fraud and Extortion Squad Detective Sen-Sgt Peter Endler told the Herald Sun.
Read a couple of reports recently saying that AV on an Android phone was an absolute waste of time and phone resources.
Just Google it Lou, you'll come up with plenty of hits.
I've been running free AVG on two different HTC mobiles. I think it has once stopped something and informed me. I also use a paid licence of AVG on all the home computers, and it seems pretty good.
As far as how useful an AV program is on Android devices, there are a number of articles which state both sides of the argument. As Andriod is so popular now, the platform will/has become a target for hackers so I guess I go for better safe than sorry.
I also agree that I would not be tempted to do online banking on my phone.
Cheers
Mike
I've used AVG on my PC for years, and have Avast installed as well... I've never had any problems and I've purchased from some pretty shady sites.
As for my phone, I run AVG only.
I use my phone for banking, and have a few different apps that I use.
Never had an issue, and the only time I have (on my pc) Westpac informed me and I didn't lose out...
I don't know what people do to lose a bunch of cash! It must be pretty stupid though!!!![]()
I've been using Lookout and it works well. More importantly, it doesn't destroy my battery life.

As I usually recharge my phone from the desktop I have a small script that switches my HTC to debug mode when its plugged into the desktop and I get the desktop to scan it whenever the system is inactive for more than 20 minutes.
My scan sequence is the phones External SD card and then the internal storage. The reason being is that my phone spends more time being used as a portable storage device than a mobile internet service.
