Thanks Richard - don't use IE - but your point is taken. However with Firefox I have already set the home page as google.au but it still searches the entire web. Was there one day, gone the next.

Gary,
If you are using IE, in the gallery which you can get to by click on find more providers. You can then click on all then I have search with google au listed there, so you should be able to set that as your default search engine.
Firefox you may just be able to edit the xml entry for the search engine.
Sorry if this was not the answer you were looking for
Richard

Hi gary,
Will look at my firefox (16.0.1) as I use both and see if I can see what setting does that, as when I do a google search from either the address bar or the search bar I do get the "pages from Australia" down the left hand side.
I know I did edit some of the XML files when I got annoyed with it a year or so ago, so i will have a look and see if I can remember what I did.
Richard
Hi Gary,
Have you tried opening:
Then if you restart your browser it and go to google.com it should default and redirect you to the au site.
Can you tell me if that fixes your search so you can get the "Pages from Australia Link"
thanks
Richard
Nope does work - as you indicated if I open google.com it automatically goes to google.com.au and when you search for something the search Aust sites open to the left is still not there.
Oh and I am using Firefox (16.0.2)
Thanks
Garry

Gary,
Can you check one more thing for me in firefox? Go to the google.com.au homepage. In the top right hand corner of your click on the cog. In the location put your location in there and save the preferences, then close the browser and retry.
Does that help?
Next steps are to check the advanced config and possible delete and recreate your profile. I can find some links if you need them.

Hi Gary,
I can only think to try and deleting your Firefox profile then.
Sorry couldn't help you fix it.
Richard
Firefox profile? Not sure what that is.
I really appreciate your efforts in trying to help with this - all your suggestions seemed appropriate and logical. I think that Google has been trying to improve things and it has backfired. i still have not got a response from Google on this issue.
Thanks
Garry
