works fine for me ...
Have we reached a new lever of bastardry from Microsoft?
My laptop stays on all the time so it can do its Microsoft Essentials virus scan in the wee hours of the morning.
This morning I do the daily routine of on the internet whilst having breaky. Click on Google Chrome - 'Chrome has Crashed' hmmm..try again - 'Chrome has Crashed'
So I try IE. Worked fine, just a little slow, with the occasional 'IE has encountered a problem and must shut down.' 'Send report?' Yes..again and again.
So I chase the problem. Microsoft update, Microsoft Essentials update & virus scans. Problem still there.
CCleaner....clean out and clear registers. Uninstall Chrome to reinstall later.
Malware...Spybot & Malwarebytes...both clear.
Now here's the kicker.....
IE works fine, surf the net, no problems. Using Google as the Home page you get the little ad to install Google Chrome. Click on the ad and straight away 'IE has encountered a problem as must shut down. Send Report'
Even search for Google Chrome and you get your results, click in the link...IE has encountered a problem...
Search for Microsoft Antitrust and everything works fine. Wikipeidia comes up, click on the link, start reading. And other searches work fine.
Conspiracy theory???? Are Microsoft deliberately blocking people from anything to do with Google Chrome?
I've done everything else that would normally fix such computer issues.
works fine for me ...

get rid of ccleaner, spybot, malwarebytes and the other crud you have installed and it will probably start working again

Interesting, since the problem only started yesterday
I have using all these other programs for years and have not had a problem till yesterday.
Also, I uninstall Spybot & Malwarebytes as soon as I can....I like running clean computers...so that eliminates that.
Last night I even uninstalled the latest updates but still do not have a result.
It's a weird one![]()
and they get updates which destabilises them as well.
if you want to run them, run the portable versions or use hiren's cd to run them with out booting from the cd
that way you can keep your computer "clean" and not be affected by them themselves and their colliding each other all the rime.
hit the restore advanced settings button under the advanced tab in IE internet options dialogue and reset all zone security to default levels under the security tab, close and restart ie
if it still doesnt work then you have a problem and need to start looking at addons etc etc

I don't trust Microsoft any further than I could throw a server! I have auto updates disabled, that's the way I like it. One fix I resort to though is to restore computer to an earlier date (look in accessories, tools, restore ) just takes everything back to where it was before the update or whatever you changed.
feral,
I am running Google Chrome on Windows XP without problem. I suspect that your conspiracy theory has no legs.
Best Wishes,
Peter
Been at it again....using all the suggestions from here and abroad. Still no result.
You are unable to click on any reference to Google at all. I want to find how much info is out there from Google forums and yet as soon as you select the link 'IE has ecountered a problem and must close. Send Report. Yes
And we start all over again. Jeez...some nerd must be stockpiling these reports.
does it happen if you just type in google.com in the address bar?
who have you got set as your default search provider in IE?
