Thread: Microsoft Word Table of Figures & APA 6th

I'm not overly clear on what you're asking, but the table of contents is populated using outline levels.

You can 'tell' the TOC what levels to include, typically restricted to level 1 or 2.

You can set the outline level for a style from the paragraph properties dialog. If the text isn't created automatically you could create a new style for the captions and apply the heading level.

Does this mean that I can make Word pick up two lines of text instead of one to incorporate with the table of tables? I have no problems with the Table of Contents (Figures) because in APA 6th the label on a figure is all on a single line.

At the moment with APA 6th and there being two lines for each label/caption and Word only picking up the top line it makes for a 50% accurate Table of Contents (Tables).

As a reminder the format for tables in APA 6th is...

Table 1.
This Table is About Blah - blah - blah

The list of Figures under the main taskbar tab of References does not seem to let me change picking up from one line of information to the two lines necessary to grab the full Table Caption/Label

Hello All,

Seems like when I revisited the message to attach some screen grabs of the area in question I have actually posted the same message twice. Now I am taking up more space with the apology

Oh and at the end of my first post I should not have written in the last line Table of Contents as I should have written like I had done earlier throughout the message "Table of Figures" or in my case "Table of Tables"

The first attachment shows what Word is producing and the second attachment is what I would like to appear. Especially the Table with the full label not just Table 1.

OK. From the screenshots I think I can see what you want to do.

Try this:
1. Add a caption (or whatever label you want) by clicking References -> Captions -> Insert Caption.
2. Don't add the text, just close the caption dialog box by clicking OK.
3. Add a soft return after the caption by hilding the shift button and pressing enter.
4. Enter the text you want.
5. Generate the table of figures References -> Captions -> Insert Table of Figures.
