can you uninstall avg inside safemode ?, or use 'msconfig' in safemode to select 'diagnostic startup'
I cant get my PC to boot. I have tried all the safe boot and last successful update options. Ive tried powering down and rebooting Its returns to the safe boot options page again.
This happened straight after upgrading to AVG 2014.
Any advise from an IT wizz, on what to try next, would be great
XP came pre loaded so I dont have discs. Can I download a boot disk?

I found a recovery disk for the PC. I tried it , but it tells me I need Restore Plus CD to boot.
I cant enter any safe mode, or last known good configuration to to uninstall AVG, or run commands.
try this to disable avg with a live cd: AVG Support and Discussion Forums | AVG Worldwide
there's also this that might help: AVG Support and Discussion Forums | AVG Worldwide
Downloaded and created the AVG rescue cd. Followed the instructions but the PC would not boot off the CD. Also tried stick and prioritised boot sequence but wouldnt even find usb (no lights)
F11 (emergency recovery) shows fasttx2k.sys cant be found?
your going to have to work out how to get your pc to boot off cd. it does not involve the hard disk and windows install on it. did you set the cd as first boot device in bios ? if no luck try a different live cd like puppy linux.
though it sounds like you can boot off cd due to comments about other recovery cd's so try something other than avg.
the other thing you could do is take the hdd out and access it with another computer to change those files
I ended up taking the PC to town. They reckon its got a faulty HHD.
Bad sectors in the boot area. Not worth fixing. Ive been waiting for a SATA/ IDE to USB adaptor, to come from ebay, so with some luck I can recover some data
Time to shop for a new PC. Missed one on Graysonline as they went for more than retail with buyers premium and freight!
If the rescue CD won't boot, it's likely because it is not selected as the boot device. at power up, you need to get into the bios setup. depending on your pc it could be cntrl-alt-del or F2 or whatever. When you are at the bios setup, select the CD as the first boot device, then power down and it should boot from the CD. If all this works, don't forget to get back into bios to reverse the boot device. Hope this helps.
