    windows 8 screen saver

Somehow my screen saver (usually blank) has changed to rainbow colours. No matter ha I try to get it back to blank it won't change. I go into "personalisation" and set it to BLANK but it won't budge. How do I change it? Jim

Is it a legit registered copy of Win8? If it hasn't been authorised/authenticated back to MS then you can't personalise it, and you get the dud rainbow screen saver by default.

If it is authorised then I dunno !!

Edit: to say that if you have done major hardware changes (like new motherboard/etc) they you have to re-authenticate

I ended up using the "Desktop Background" option for a "screen saver"

Windows 8 was installed when I bought the computer. No program changes either. It just appeared. There is a choice of BLANK for a screen saver which means the screen is plain black.

All up to date. If I have misled everyone it now appears not to be a screen saver problem but what happens when the computer goes into hibernation, which is a low power mode. Can't find any settings to change for this. Jim

    control panel > power options

on the left should be menu options that allow you to change what a lot of stuff does...

i just put mine in high performance mode and it turns all the stuff i dont want off by default

Still doing it in high performance mode. What is actually happening is that it goes to the screen saver ok. Then to hibernation. When I wake it it goes to this rainbow screen instead of my desktop, which it used to go to. I then click on the rainbow screen and my desktop then opens normally. It appears to be this extra step but I don't know how it got there, how to remove it or to what part of the program it belongs. Jim
