The drop out issue sounds like a missing / incorrectly installed line filter.
Google "adsl line filter" to see what they are and how / where they should be connected.
I would provide a link but I can't work out how to post links on this stupid phone![]()
About this time last year our modem got zapped by lightning .We bought a new TP-Link one and from that day on every time the phone rings the modem disconnects the internetwhether you answer the phone or not You then have to turn off the modem turn back on and reconnect PPOE in system network. The modem has wireless which we have been unable to get to work it also has a sticker saying run CD before connecting. Those little CDs take some

splitters/filters only last till the get a touch up the phone line
have you added a new device to the phone line?
sometimes doing a reset on the modem and setting it back can make a difference
sometimes just pulling everything out of the modem including all cable and power supplies etc for half an hour can make a difference
others i have had to reflash to get back reliable...
can be so many different things
you had rain just before it started dropping out?
any whistles pops or crackles if you put a phone on the line?

Every second or third year we have phone line issues caused by wet season lightning. If you are certain lightning took out your original modem then call your provider to remote test your line - that will be a very basic but important component checked out. For us, if Telstra detects a problem then a techo comes out and checks the junction box, and filters.
No problems with the line but we are about max distance from the exchange tried a new filter but no fixone thing I forgot to mention is you have to reconnect ppoe when starting after the computer has been shut down I think an AK47 would be the most satisfying solution

after having this issue..only starting in last few weeks after having perfect connection for years..i found the solution.. although might not be the solution for everyone..it fixed mine... for last few weeks my internet drops out when i receive a phone call..it gets frustrating!..i spent last 4 hours changing filters and cables and different setup combinations with the phone and router..to come to no result..
after all this i decided to try something different..here is what i did..
i use a dynalink RTA1046VW ADSL2+ Modem Router, but would assume a lot of router logins would be similar and have same sort of menu when logged in..
i logged into my router/modem IP... http:/192.168.1.1

once logged in i searched for the 'wireless' settings..
in 'wireless' settings, there is something called 'channel'.. by default mine had the box ticked to 'select best quality channel automatically'..which was always channel 1..
i unticked that box, and selected one of the other channels (1-13) i chose channel 4 for absolutely no reason...
saved the settings..
rang the house phone with mobile
bam!! phone rings and answered without and internet disconnection..
i hope this helped people..
i never use this forum and forgot my username and password its been that long..i had to reset it so i could reply to this to hopefully help people out..
Modem Disconnects When Phone Rings - TPG
and (looks like we can waste your whole weekend with stuff like this)-
One last troubleshooting step may or may not help – connect internet, call house and answer phone, keep the call connected and try reconnecting to the internet while you are on the call. Does it connect? Does the phone get noise while the modems trying to reconnect?
If noise modem is prob stuffed or the splitter.
If doesnt connect with no noise – modem or splitter
If it does connect with the call working still it will still most likely be the modem, i have heard modems and routers have "switches" these transmit data or some such and flick very fast and degrade over time not die all at once so you can get bizarre occurrences where things like this happen.
I actually had my telstra modem doing this to me but the dsl light was going red so i assumed it was telstas fault, got there new modem and still happened(lol trust) bought a new billion modem router and works perfect.

and quite a few examples where service provider says line is fine but it turns out to be fused, worn, corroded lines. One one occasion our problem was at the substation switch which required a reset. We also had the green corrosion problem, at the outlet near the kitchen, all those cooking fumes. There is only so much blame a filter can take and got to be something else. And these -
Had similar issue at my parents (phone would knock out Internet, very poor speed, problems with stability, etc). Finally turned out that the cable from the street went through a tree and the wind/branches had caused the wire to strip from the support cable and to break internally. First 2 Telstra techs said there was no problem. It was only when I pointed this out to the third that he replaced the cable and fixed it. A most frustrating process -even changed Internet provider...
Hope you find your problem soon
I had this problem when an insect died on the back of my RJ12 socket (inside the wall). It was fine most of the time but became a short circuit whenever ring voltage was applied.
Also check your RJ12 contacts on the ends of your phone cables for green corrosion. That has a similar effect.
