Thats a pretty high watt rate, I've only seen 90 watt psu's for in car chargers. You might have to run it off an inverter?
I have just bought a MSI Apachi Pro laptop for use in the van while we are touring.
The 240 power supply is 125W 19.5V and 6.5A.
can anyone recomend a DC-DC 12V converter that will cover that?
The laptop DC input is just the normal small push in plug.
I have a 3.5A converter but the screen pulses which I take as the unit needing more than that.
Also--
the specs say 19.5V
all the converters I've seen run 18, 19, 20.
better to run under or over V?
Thanks
Pedro

I was using a 150W inverter (SCA) in the truck for over a year, no problems. Sometimes it would beep on startup, but ran fine afterwards.
Thinking about it, the only times it beeped was when it was plugged into a standard cigarette lighter outlet. If I used the 20 amp ones I had for the fridges, it didn't beep at all.

I've run much bigger cable to the 12V outlet in the van, only limitation now is the original cable into outlet,, so 10 amps.

Make sure the inverter is a pure sine wave, you can wreck the electronics if it isn't.
Pedro.
I had a 300W inverter in the D2 for Lindsay to run his laptop whilst we were travelling. He would play games, watch DVDs etc without any problems.
Its still good so will be fitting it in the D4 when I do the dual battery system.

You could see if Jaycar's straight stepup 12v volt converter (the unit has quite a few output voltage settings) will be OK.
The unit doesn't have a 19.5v setting but is there any practical difference for you computer battery if you charge it at 19.0v ?
You could measure the actual output from the adapter supplied with the computer to see if it actually is 19.5v.
Mine works well for the Toshiba laptops (240v adapters for which are 19v & 7.5a), output voltage is accurate at the setting chosen, all dc, no inverter, no ac![]()
