Windows 7 not recognising USB devices....

... such as USB sticks, cameras, etc - basically anything I want to do !

When I plug one in - nothing happens. AT ALL. A complete lack of recognition.

And before you say it..... Google is NOT my friend this time.

I've tried pretty much everything on the internet.

    - turning off and restarting computer
    - plugging and unplugging USB device.
    - Manually scanning for a device.
    - checking the drive allocations to assure it just hasn't been assigned a conflicting letter
    - verifying that usbstor.inf is in the windows inf directory.
    - updating all drivers (they were all in fact already up to date)

I'm at a bit of a loss.... can anyone help please ?

Oh and it seemed to start when I updated the firmware on a dash camera. I doubt that's related but one never knows....

As for Google - it can't even do simple maths right.

    Well bugger me.

I uninstalled all the USB drivers/ devices whatever and restarted the computer.

It installed them again from scratch - it WORKS now ! Yay !

My pc has done exactly the same thing this week. Yesterday I did all the same things as you then uninstalled all the USB drivers and worked ok for a while then started happening again. I wonder if there was a shonky window update.
    Cheers, David.

2cents worth: In Windows 7, click on the Start button then Run type the following command in the text box diskmgmt.msc and then hit the Enter to see all connected drives.
