    Firefox and parental control

I came out this morning to find my 6 tr old grandson playing games on my pc. However he had navigated to a highly erotic site on utube. I have since installed Metacert as an add-on to Firefox and have set it up with password and it is running. However I can still access this site. Any suggestions re blocking this stuff? Jim

    Hi Jimbo.
Ron's suggestion will definitely work, but on a more serious note, this is a big issue for parents and grand parents of younger kids.
The Internet is a representation of the whole planet in one place, with all of its good, and bad, accessible by everyone.
I pose this question to you:
Would you let your 6 yr old wonder the streets of Bangkok on their own?
My guess is the answer would be "No".
My kids are now old enough to get into their own trouble, but when they were younger we had a couple of simple things in place to protect them.
The computer was in a common area of the house (lounge room) with the screen facing the middle of the room so we could always see where they were. The computer itself had a password so that we had to give them access and so we would always monitor their usage.
Access to the computer should be seen by them as a privilege not a right.
In the long run, NOTHING beats parental supervision.

Just my two bobs worth and worth everything you paid for it.

Thanks guys. I have parental control operating and funnily enough it blocked access to this thread, so it appears to be a good one. Jim

Or more exactly, "In the long run, NOTHING works except parental supervision."

A six year old may not be able to get round anything you do, but I would not bet on it. And in a couple of years, their computer skills are almost certain to be equal to yours.

    I Absolutely agree with that.

Be aware that the providers of unsavoury material out there are always looking for ways around any Parental Control software out there.

    Not just your kids.
