    the fast ones all use special caching of content...

    Netflix speed comparion from netflix

    NETFLIX has released its first Australian internet service provider speed index, showing which internet provider gives the best experience for streaming video. Surprisingly, Australia's biggest telco and ISP Telstra ranks last in the rankings, with Telstra customers averaging a speed of 2.23Mbps.
    TPG topped out the rankings with an average speed of 3.36Mbps, closely followed by Optus at 3.27Mbps.

    I'm with TPG on a ADSL2+ plan less than 400m from the exchange. Never had an issue with my netflix.
    Fact of the matter is that Australian internet is complete crap. I would do nasty things for the speeds that are commonplace in most other countries.

    speed is generally determined by the last mile, which for the majority of people is adsl which is isp interdependent.
