I dunno,, they offer the two upgrades, then when you take them up on it they dont offer a way to fix them?(remember this is Microsoft's preferred way of distribution--)
    except re-download the entire thing.
The system tells me some files are missing,, but cant tell me which ones? or cant download them?

Have you tried the system file checker from an administrator command line? SFC & enter, will come up with a syntax error listing the switches you can use, must use one when you enter SFC.

No guarantees, I've had mixed results, but might be worth a try.

I must admit this is starting to sound like issues I was getting about a month ago, but a MS update made everything play nicely again, suggesting a previous update corrupted something.

    Pedro,
Are you aware that Windows 8 onwards changed to a UEFI system, instead of the traditional BIOS system you had on Vista......
The only way to access the "UEFI" is through the system settings, then advanced, then you choose whether you wish to reboot, or get into the UEFI system.

Correct. Windows has nothing to do with the bios. It also should not effect your computers post either. The way you describing the issue sounds like its failing to boot then the second startup works from a default settings startup. Clearing your bios using a jumper up button on the mobo then checking the config should do it. Or I could be completely wrong.
