that worked for a while but now there is no response from the bar at the bottom of the screen.
None of the icons work on the bar, but they all work ok on the main screen.
i can shut down with the power button but i'm not sure if that just sends it to sleep or shuts it down completely.
Its not a major issue but annoying, especially as Microsoft kind of gave the impression that its there answer to all things.

I got rid of Windows 7 and installed Linux mint instead, I would never go back to Windows personally especially after seeing the latest version of mint.

I have no real answer for the task bar not working.
You could maybe right click on your desktop icons and there will be an option "add to task bar". Maybe try that although if they are one the task bar they should work
My task bar works fine on the 3 installations I have done. I might add one of my PCs is about 7 years old and it works fine if a bit slow to open threads on AULRO because of the bloody ads.
Have you shut down and restarted the PC? There has also been a large cumulative update dated 28/8 AFAIR that may help. Go to "settings" then Updates and see if it has been installed.

Try this mate - when I installed w10 I lost all the icons on the desktop - I got how to get them back from this site. I know that's not your prob - but I reckon they'll know what the issue is.

I guess my answer is "if you're not you should be". This isn't to say that Win 10 is technically bad or anything but upgrading certainly needs a bit of consideration before doing so.
Being 'old school' (or old fart whichever you like) I can recall some of Microsofts history and corporate culture ie. from being convicted of stealing the disc compression software packaged in DOS 6.x, its recall and re issue as DOS 6.xx through the browser wars and its 'knock off' of Java leading to yet another legal battle resulting in its totally unannounced removal in a Windows update leaving many users up the creek to name just a few. So the first question should probably be - Microsoft actually giving away its new operating system ? (accompanied by a look of incredulity).
Once you get over the shock and go to download the reason why it is 'free' start to become apparent. Data mining, collection and resale is big business and if you choose to go with the default install of Win 10 you'll miss the 7 or so questions ticked by default that give Microsoft permission to download and use whatever they like from your PC. Amazing how many actually tick default install, ignorance is bliss I expect. You mightn't be paying money for Win 10 but the cost can be high in the 'loss of privacy' stakes.
An aware installer will tick 'no' to these options and think their privacy is safe but this is not actually the case. After installing Win 10 I found that 'Allow Remote Assistance connections to this computer' was enabled something I normally have disabled but was 'updated' by the Win 10 install.
Another issue is that it is no longer possible to review and select which updates to install. The unalterable default is to allow Microsoft to download unlimited amounts of data to your PC. This is in addition to the uploads of usage/browsing etc data to Microsoft mentioned earlier. All this regardless of cost to the user or choking of available bandwidth. It may just be my cynicism here but can the muppets at Microsoft (not AULRO) conceive of a place where unlimited gigabit downloads aren't the norm ? A major fail in Win 10 functionality in my opinion, I guess the Microsoft designers just don't care.
Another negative for me is that AdBlock doesn't work anymore and I assume the slowing down of my browsing (compared to Win 7) is a result of this, or it may just be the effect of vast amounts of data being moved under Win 10 but it's definitely noticeable.
But the real kicker for me was the Windows update settings which by default not only allows updates to be sourced from other 'random' Win 10 PC's but allows my Win 10 PC to be the upload source for other 'random' Win 10 PC's further increasing my upload volume, bandwidth choking and cost. :eek:
Microsofts own little (HUGE) 'user pays' peer to peer network.
From a technical viewpoint the 'upgrade' went smoothly and without a hitch. I initiated the download and the installation was quite simple and pain free. My PC is fairly ordinary by todays standards Win 7 SP1 32 bit, Core2duo, 4gig ram, integrated NVidia graphics on a Gigabyte mb with no weird hardware or software.
In conclusion I've decided there's 'no such thing as a free lunch', and this includes Windows 10. For me the cost is too great, it may not be in direct $ spent on the OS but the TCO is the killer. I don't trust Microsofts integrity (now there's an oxymoron if ever there was one) not to 'rape and pillage' their way through the PC world for their own profit at my expense and I find the total lack of security and privacy in using Win 10 to be a major fail.
I'll be returning to Win 7 as soon as I've backed up.

/me is no fan of mickeysoft but for all the crap...
but it is now streets ahead of anything else....
and i use most OS's on a daily basis and to be frank.... and i cant believe i am saying it, but i am....
osx is goodly, debian is goodly, ubuntu is a nice compromise...
but they all need to pull something out of the hat to catch up to this lot....
i'll feel like i need to rinse my mouth out... but it's true....
sure, it isn't the answer to everyone's needs but for the vast majority, the general populace that don't need to nor want to learn an OS in depth, it is a very successful release....
