    Laptop upgrade bits finally arrived

6 weeks from Singapore and Taiwan

anyway I reckon its now quicker than Mrs Pedro's AMD 10 core thingy

Quick question for my Techy friends,,
    I installed 2x2gb sticks and Win 10 (32bit) tells me I have 2.99 available.
    can I get some back?

Would not think so on 32 bit windows. You got 4 gb Ram available minus the memory reserved for use by all the devices, bios, graphic etc. Don't think you can fiddle how much memory is required by all that.

It's not a processor thing Pedro it's an 'addressability' thing. A 32 bit operating system can allow access to 2 to the power of 32 addresses which is about 4 Gig of addresses but some of these are needed for hardware devices other than memory. The end result is a 'memory limit' in 32 bit x86 systems of 3 - 3.5 G of memory. It's a bit of a pentium design 'quirk' that old pentium pro's (for example) could access more than this due to a different architecture.

    Have a read of this
