    MS Surface Pro thingy

The MS surface pro is advertised as being a replacement for a laptop.

    How true is this?
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

We've been though 3 of them. First two had tech issues which they gave up trying to fix and just gave us a brand new 3rd one, which has been pretty good.

Screen has great resolution, but when you get old like me and the missus it's really hard to read the tiny writing, and pressing with fat fingers is a bit of a lottery on what you actually click on. I don't think you can change to a lower DPI to make things bigger on the screen.

If you use Terminal Services to remote in to other machines, you can't alter the viewing resolution at all. Very small font again.

For browsing the web and skype/facebook they are fine. Not a chance that I'd want to use one for work though. I like my IBM/Lenovo ThinkPad MUCH more. It's old school laptop style, but it's reliable and tough.

Yes you can, at least on the surface pro 4.

Don't know about terminal services but with multi monitors The scaling can be set for each monitor.

For me it has replaced both my laptop and (with the surface dock) my desktop.

We've only got a 3, and I've yet to find a way to make things look bigger.

I think it is a windows thing. Not related to a surface at all.

Assuming you have win10 right click on the desktop, choose display settings and adjust the slider "Change the size of text, apps and other items"

On my surface (resolution 2736 x 1824) I have this set 175%. On my other monitor (resolution 1920x1080) I have this set to 100%.

I imagine win 8 must be similar.

I have a 3 and have the size set to 150%, works for me. These are great devices, powerful and has replaced my desktop, type cover is really nice to use too. I also use it as a navigation device with Oziexplorer, works really well but is maybe a little big for this task. Check eBay for a used one, you can get them for a decent price.

I've had a Surface 3 (on W10) for 6 months and love it. I am a project manager on construction sites who, before the 3, had to plan ahead for meetings and site visits, print and lug around plans, drawings, diary and then get the laptop out for emails, etc.

It is not a replacement for a laptop/computer (not for me anyway) but I could not live without it and Onenote.

ps: Windows and MS apps (hate that "word" apps) continue to have its/their....."issues" but I'm used to that.

I'm in two minds about the pro.............faster better stronger...........but bigger.....

Good thing about the Pro size is it pretty much equals an A4 piece of paper so when you need to gather around it or sit down with someone it has that familiarity to it. Natural to hold in the hand too.
