Not specifically for the Note 5, but my Note 3 runs around in an OtterBox Defender. Great bit of kit.
Custom Galaxy Note 5 case | Defender Series from OtterBox | OtterBox

Bulks out the phone a bit - but that's the only real way you get protection.

I reccomend the lifecase series over the defender series for one reason.

the fully waterproof ones are still skinny enough for the qi charging to work which means once you seal it up, if you have a bluetooth headset you never need to open the bugger up, you cant get sweat through it and it doesnt get upset with NT rain.

    the downside is...

the impact protection is not as good and the case relies a little on the phone for rigidity.

if the waterproofness isnt an issue and you want what I consider the most abuse proof case you can get for a phone.. get the defender, it protected my M8 through the denzins of hell I put phones through...

Its almost as tough as a nokia 6110

I have a lifeproof on my galaxy , should have got one ages ago.
Waterproof and can still hear audio as if it had no cover , would be ideal if you plan on using the note for mapping.

I have an Otterbox Defender on my S4 and it has been great BUT the rubber around the outside comes loose fairly quickly, and absorbs smells from the environment (largely my fault for smoking, really ought to stop that).

I love the idea of a waterproof case but with a Note 5 that would mean I couldn't get to the S-pen which is a bit of a deal breaker.

I've seen other cases that cover the rear and edges of the phone (like the UAG, but still require a decent screen protector. I gather that Gorilla Glass 4 is the top of the pile in this regard (its tempered glass). Anyone use that?

Got a link - the lifeproof site makes no mention of the Note 5.

I use a cheap (eBay) tempered glass screen protector in combination with the Otterbox Defender. The Otterbox's built-in plastic screen protector gets removed, glass screen protector on the phone, the the Otterbox goes on. Great combination... but obviously not waterproof, if that's what you're after...

I'm thinking a UAG case plus glass screen protector will be how I'll go. The UAG is a fair bit cheaper than the Otterbox and I reckon it's well worth a try. Great wraps for it on various android and Samsung forums.

Mike do you have a link for the screen protector you got? No halo issues?

Bought in August, but the seller isn't selling them any more, so can't link.

But it was a "NuGlas" branded one... a quick look on eBay shows buckets of them for the Note 5 available. Like these:
2X Genuine Nuglas Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector | eBay
Genuine Nuglas Premium Tempered Glass Screen Protector FOR Samsung Galaxy Note 5 | eBay

I can't tell that the screen protector is on at all, other than taking the cover off and eyeballing the edges. Really indistinguishable from the standard screen glass, as far as I can tell...
