Transferring Data between Samsung android phones

    Question 1

I am trying to transfer all my data (contacts, images, music etc etc) from a Samsung Galaxy S4 to my new Note 5.

I used the 'Samsung Smart Switch' app but it seems to have done 'some' of the contacts, a few of the apps, but none of the photos, music, documents.

Also in particular I have one game which didn't transfer so I reinstalled from Google Play BUT it hasn't taken my in-app purchases and progress along with it.

What other methods should I try?

    Question 2

I'm passing on the S4 to my missus. If I set her up with a google account, will she lose all the apps etc which were purchased via my account? We want to avoid that if we can.

    Thanks

    Download "kies" to ur computer.
That is the official samsung site for updating your hardware/software and all the things on yoursmart ph/tablet/note.
You can then download ur ph to it and then put it on your new note/ph etc.
    Hope this helps.

No longer. "kies' has been superseded by "Smart Switch".

I used the following apps to make it happen for me.

google, its got all my contacts setup in it so it delt with that
sms backup+ to get my sms's into my google account then to put them back on the phone
    ES file explorer
    bluetooth app sender

    heres how I did it.

First I synced the donor phone to google then I followed the normal setup on the recipient phone.
Then I use bluetooth app sender to send all my installed apps over.
then networked both phones on wifi and used ES file explorer to send all the contents across pushing from the donor phone.

some of the apps didnt transfer their save data so I then stuck both phones onto their USB cables on the computer, searched through the phones to find where the apps were installed and their data was kept and then manually recopied the different files from the donor phone to the recipient phone.

Depending on what you're trying to keep from your account on the phone generally, no you cant keep the stuff from your account on the phone once you set it up on her account. that said.
Some apps will retain full functionality and all their data, they only use the google account to install and setup. (completely free games that dont have player accounts/signups or rewards)
Some apps will allow the core install but will segregate the data (Free games and free office type applications, fitness apps)
Some apps will stay installed but not function unless you re-license(pay for) them on the new account.
Some apps license to the device so they wont work on your new device until you license them (pay for) to the new device.

One way of working around this is to put the 2 google accounts onto the one phone.

The same basic caveats apply if you setup the samsung account.

I've been told, but havent tried so I cant verify that you can do a full backup to the samsung service and then pull it down again into the new device as a restore.

Sorry, Vlad, I would have recommended smart switch. Moved all of my stuff from an S4 to an S5, and the missus's stuff from a Sanyo to an S5 without a hitch.

    Have you a microSD perchance?

Smart switch only did part of the job but I got there in the end.

Moving contacts and texts from an old Nokia x3 to the Samsung S4 is proving MUCH more problematic.

Most apps/books/music I buy are now bought via a shared google account. This way they can be downloaded/used on any of our android devices.
