    Ouch for Norton AV

You Should Update Your Antivirus Software Right Now | Gizmodo Australia

A security researcher at Google has found several fatal flaws in Symantec antivirus software (also known as Norton) that he describes as ?as bad as it gets?. Symantec has issued an advisory to customers and released updates that fix the security flaws.

I'm guessing that was the Norton patch that came through not long ago.

I thought Norton was a virus

Over the years made more than a few dollars removing stuff Norton let through...

    Sophos is my current choice...

2015 TDV6 D4.... the latest project... Llams, Traxide, Icom 455, Tuffant Kimberleys and Mofos.... so far.
2012 SDV6 SE D4 with some stuff... gone...

If you classify slowing down your computer terribly and hogging resources as a virus then yes, it is :P

The old Norton was horrible. Norton360 was a lot better but work has since moved to endpoint at our IT techs recommendation.

    Hello All,

One of the former techs at uni recommended ESET Smart Security. This is despite the uni having SOPHOS installed on all their computers. Apparently SOPHOS let stuff through that ESET caught.

That was a couple of years ago now and things do change quickly in the IT world!

But gee doesn't ESET like to remind you that your registration has run out - multiple times each day! I fell back to using SOPHOS for a while.

    Kind Regards

my experience is the exact opposite..

i've found eset to be highly overrated and installed on a lot of computers that have been seriously compromised...

a lot of it is dependent on type of usage and environment.

but it certainly wouldn't make it onto my preferred list.

I have used the free version of AVAST for years. If you would really like more protection, you can pay for a higher level of security. Have never liked Norton.

    G'day Incisor,

I suppose I should have asked before paying for another year's registration! Just as well I did not pay for more than one year though. That would have hurt just that wee bit more

    Kind Regards
