Well I finally got the new toy last week....

15" 2.7Ghz i7 Quad core 512GB SSD 16GB Ram 4GB Radeon Pro460

I obviously haven't had it for long enough to form a really good opinion.... but first impressions are pretty damn good.

Yes it was expensive.... but as mentioned earlier - through an initial big discount and purchasing it salary sacrifice.... it's not costing me as much out of my pocket as you would think.

Build is awesome... its slim and light and right now I couldn't be happier with it.

The screen is fantastic... so clear and rich in colour.

The one thing I really didn't expect is the audio....... its not just good "for a Laptop".. its just good.


Anyway. I'll stick my head back in a month or two and tell you what it's like to live with after a while.

Ive heard the audio quality is awesome for a notebook. It was compared to a previous gen model and the difference was chalk and cheese.

It's another thing i can't justify spending money on but im keen to hear your thoughts after a while

I have been honk the audio on my 2014 13" is pretty good. It has just been repaired and will last until mid year and I will salary sacrifice a 15". Keep us updated.

Thought I'd post a quick update.

I got the Macbook just after new year finally. As you'd expect it's beautifully made, the screen is gorgeous and its got tonnes of power.

Interestingly, I'm not as impressed with this one as I have been with previous machines.

As I work in a pure windows environment at work, I use OSX for personal stuff and run a Windows Virtual Machine, which I join to our corporate domain.

I prefer not to just boot camp it, as access to both systems simultaneously is handy. In the past I have always used VMWare Fusion, which has always run really smoothly for me - at least for the 5 years or so. So I set this up the same way, but have been plagues with dramas.

Windows machine running significantly slower than I expected for no real reason, long delays accessing file shares on the OSX drive all sorts of weirdness.

After some research I discovered, I'm not the only bloke with VMWare 8.5 and windows 10 having a miserable time. So after more stuffing around I finally decided to try Parallels instead...

Must say, even though I don't like their pricing model, the product seems pretty solid and I am back to a happy place with my VM.

On the OSX side, I've mainly used it for a bit of photo editing in lightroom and photoshop and couldn't be happier. (Well an SD slot might make me happier - but one of my cameras has moved to QXD anyway )

The drive on this thing is super fast and the screen is perfect.


Overall it's a great machine, really not sure why I'm not quite as impressed with this one as I have been in the past.

But it certainly kicks the arse of the company HP Elitebook I've been using for the last 6 months

What is the Touch bar like using Parallels? Does it offer anything or can you customise it? Or does it show traditional F buttons?

And are you frustrated with only USB C type ports yet?
