    Computer Expert in Melbourne Please?

We have a Dell desktop which has given good service, but which is probably 10 yrs old, an Inspiron 530,...now super slow, takes ages to change pages etc, lots of hesitation etc, maybe a virus etc, or something else wrong?
Wifey & I are pretty hopeless on this sort of stuff. she's got a powerful Lenovo laptop which is brilliant, we just need some help with my desktop.
There sre so many rip off merchants around, so I'd just like to use someone recommended to us who is good & honest.
Of course I don't mind paying, as long as I get the proper person. We're in Bayside Melbourne.
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
    Thanks, Pickles.

Ten years old and still running at all is quite extraordinary. For the cost of fixing it up you'd be better seeing what new can get you

Get a new one mate, I persevered with an oldie, it was crashing all the time, upgraded to a newer more powerful one(ex govt auctions), a huge improvement.

For 90% of folks that just want to browse a bit, the odd word doc, emails and suchlike, upgrading to a new faster PC is wasted.

If your doing intricate video editing, gigapixel panorama stitching from raw files, or massive 3D graphics rendering .. then yeah! New PC will do it faster.

    I'd recommend:
    1. save all your much needed personal files. This will be images, documents(docs, xl's, pdfs, etc, whatever.
Save them to some safe external storage.
    2. get your old CD/DVD install disk, and re install your OS(I'm assuming Win as it's a Dell).
Make sure you have your registration key handy.

Only caveat with this is if you were running Windows Vista.
If so, get a new PC(it'll be better in the long run than to update to a newer version of Windows!)
If you're using Win7, no problems just re install it.
It's amazing the difference a fresh install makes to the speed of a PC.

If you're truly totally and completely stuck, I may be free this coming Friday at some point if you'd like help with it.
I haven't been down to Brighton to help my sis, when I've told her I will one day, so bayside/Brighton .. same, same!
Only unknown about this Friday is work .. have no idea if I have any or not.
If I do, apologies .. but if I don't then I'll probably be free.
You can PM me if you like.

    Best option.
But don't just upgrade over the old Vista, if this is even an option.
Backup important data, and fresh install.

As long as your hardware is compatible(which it most likely will be save for an old scanner/printer or whatever) ..
Your PC should work fast enough.

My old PC had 2007 level AMD hardware and worked just fine with Win 7 and then Win10.
Only reason I upgraded is I do a lot of 80-90Mb+ raw file photo work, and wanted not only more space, but super fast SSDs to go with it.

One day when I can remember too, I'll get a power supply for that old PC and get it fired up again(without any need for it tho).

I've always been gobsmacked by the performance improvements that come with a complete reinstall. Its always a marked improvement.

And, Windows 10 (and 8/8.1 but we won't go there) has been designed to run on phones and tablets so is more efficient than the older operating systems. That alone can give a PC a new lease on life.

The other trick, although some people don't want to go there, is to replace the hard drive with a solid state drive (SSD). I've done that on both the boxes at home, running the original hard drive as a second data storage drive. That also will improve performance, particularly startup.
