    Memory, or lack of

Every now and then my computer drops the program that is being used and a notification comes on the screen NOT ENOUGH MEMORY. I assume it is referring to the RAM, of which there is 4 gig. This is only happening since I installed Windows 10, and usually only occurs when playing card games. Am I correct and how much RAM should I install?

    Thats some card game
4gb should heaps to run it,,( but is considered not a lot these days--)

so I dont think its that,,
    maybe a page file thing?

Your motherboard will dictate how much ram you can install.

This implies a previous version of Windows before it ?

Your version of Windows does too.
32bit version can only use up to 4G, so even tho your mainboard can accept 9say) 64Gigs, the 32bit OS won't use any of it above that 3point something Gigabyte level.

64bit OS can use far more(terabytes of the stuff!) tho.

Other things that affect amount of installed RAM can be the graphics system.
    On board or separate card?
Onboard(on the mainboard) will use some. Most BIOSes have the ability to configure how much.
If card GFX type, then onboard GFX should be disabled and hence all your RAM is allocated to OS and programs.

Also!! what background programs are running? these can be quite numerous and resource hogging, depending on which and what and so forth.
IF you had to install Adobe Acrobat reader for example .. it usually running on some idiotic quick launch mode and hogs a bit.
Same with Flash .. it seems to want to run almost all the time for no reason whatsoever.
Chances are that some inane program(s) or service(s) have been installed and running and eating up RAM.

Ideally, most modern(er) OSes with their uber cool looking graphics benefit from at least 8G of RAM nowadays.
Win7 was the last of OSes where 4Gig seemed to work OK-ish.
Win8's were both totally slug like with 4, and 8 seemed to fix that a bit nicer(especially on touchscreen devices).

I've never tried Win10 for too long with only 4G, updated my sons lappie to 8G not long after the Win10 upgrade.
My old box had 8G, and I have 4x8G sticks in this one, so can't do 4G as a test to see how it goes.

I doubt that it's the car game itself .. more likely some other program/service and the car game triggers the situation.

    Also check the Processes tab.
Have your card game running, lets say it's called Card Game, and if it's the program you're currently using, it should be listed at the top of the list.
That will show you mow much RAM it's currently using.

Some programs(eg. flash) use up a lot of RAM just doing nothing!

Last thing to check is the Start Up tab.
99% of programs listed there are not necessary.
You don't NEED programs like Java Update running all the time(you can check this manually yourself .. and so on.
Right Click any that don't look like they're needed(for your requirements) and click disable.

How old is the card game?

You might be better off using Windows 10's compatibility mode and run it in a "previous" version of Windows.

Right click the game executable (.exe file), select properties and click the Compatability tab on the resulting dialog box. You will be able to select previous versions of Windows, as well as disabling some memory intensive options.
