    Designing Apps

    Hello All Techie Types,

I would like to experiment with designing an "App". I realise there are some online websites that can demonstrate how to run through the process. However, being a child of the early '60s I like to have hardcopy in my hands.

I have come across various books for "Dummies" - that is a pretty accurate description of my computer literacy BTW ...

The titles I have come across so far are:
    Google Apps For Dummies
    iPad Application Development For Dummies
iOS 6 Application Development For Dummies
    Android App Development For Dummies,

Which one ... or more ... of these four books would allow me maximum coverage for mobile phone and computer download availability? If more than one book which combination of what books would you recommend?

Or is there another brand of book written for low computer literacy types like myself that is not produced by the "dummies" people that cover all the application platforms? If so what is the name of this book?

Sorry about all the questions. I am at the Mount Everest shaped part of the learning curve at the moment. However ...."Grasshopper, a journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step' ... This email is the first step taken. I would greatly appreciate your assistance

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

leave your sanity at the door if you have any at the start of the journey..

can't help with the books, sorry but if your intending to set out on a journey to create something your best spending a fair bit of time putting to paper what you want to achieve and how you might go about getting that to interact with users in a way that is easy for them and useful to you..

plenty of places like guru.com that you can use others to put the bits together for you once you know what you want to achieve...

or if your into self torment do the lot yourself....

    Hello Incisor,

I am doing a PhD ... what do you reckon! Although it is not in computers...

I am also currently reading this article for my research ...Skokauskas, N., & Gallagher, L. (2010). Psychosis, affective disorders and anxiety in autistic spectrum disorder: prevalence and nosological considerations. Psychopathology, 43(1), 8-16. doi:10.1159/000255958

At the same time I am ticking off a number of boxes

    Kind Regards

I recently made some car corner weight scales using load cells, an arduino board, a bluetooth transmitter and something called MIT App Inventor 2 (MIT App Inventor | Explore MIT App Inventor).

They have a GUI system that you use to build the app the way you want it and basically writes all the behind the scenes code for you. You then test your work using your smart device.

Great if you want to just build something but not so if you are all geeky like and want to know how to manually write code.

    Hello Mk1 Oz,

Thank you for the reply and for the URL to the MIT site.

    Kind Regards
