    Which Wireless Internet option is best?

    Hi all.. So, we have about completed a new build house, in which I plan to spend a lot more time than I have in previous homes. I plan to do quite a bit of work from home, and will need internet access... I have a works laptop which connects to the WiFi at work, and I want to set up similar at home, BUT I want the home system to be mobile, so it can come with me when I'm out on the road, but also when we travel. We currently have an Ipad on prepaid Internet ($40 month), and 2 prepaid mobiles.. Wifetec also has a new Ipad, and an Ebook reader..

    In the past we had a Telstra Wireless Broadband plan, so I have a 3G/4G wireless 'thing' about the size of a Mobile. I plan to drop into a Telstra shop and sign up for a 1 yr plan with 20 GB / month for $70... but before I do, I thought I'd ask those on the forum if they had any suggestions.. I think Telstra is the only option as its a Bigpond 'thing', and I need reasonably decent and reliable Internet access when in Country SA.

    There is a newer model out now which is 4GX. From what I understand, some newer areas only have the 4GX frequency which I think is 700 mhz. Also much faster. The experts will be along shortly to advise correctly.

    The mobile thingy is great for on the run but for home get a TP-Link TL-MR6400 or similar for the home. Just swap the SIM when you go.

    Or get a second SIM on the Telstra plan for the home router.

    Obviously you don't have kids, my pair chewed through 541 GB last month on our house NBN

    Defo no kids!! They're even more expensive to run than the Green Oval! So (excuse my ignorance), but why have a home router when the mobile thingy does the same job when at home....?

    Hi,
    I have a thingy for travel (pre paid 1 year, 20 GB, $115.
    Home is ADSL and free calls, rediculous data amount, $100+ /month.

    Speed and data cost is why I have both.

    ADSL is cheaper and faster but not mobile.

    If only I could share the cost of the home line with a few neighbours.....

    It allows cable connection and connection of a greater number of devices can be attached. It is also powered up from a plug pack and does not contain batteries. The mobile device contains batteries.

    Hey, it's just my recommendation. I find it works well for me.

    Well guys, you may have opened a floodgate. I'm going to ask about my possibly similar arrangement, so if impertinent, mods please move for me?

    I too am an (albeit partial) Telstra customer for similar reasons. i have a 4G dongle that I connect to my laptop when away from home - it has a simcard. My mobile is also Tesltra (Samsung 5 is complicated enuff for me).

    However, my home provider (with wifi) is Westnet/now bought out by iinet, and I'm still very happy with their service after must be nearly 20 years.

    So is one of these new devices in the thread and above of any use to me and those like me?
