But is it really slow?

Quite often the algorithm used to calculate transfer speed falls over and doesn't report accurately.

By D: drive are you referring to the optical reader/ writer? If so there could be a bottleneck in the CD/DVD authoring program, you might have something competing with Windows to control the process.

What happens if you create a zip file of the files you are trying to transfer?

Indeed. D: doesn't tell us much, Pedro. Is it a seperate internal HDD, a partition on the main drive, an external HDD, an optical drive, a thumb drive?? What BUS is being used for the transfer? What file type is being transferred? What OS?

C is a SSD with Win 10,
D is a HDD for everything other than Win 10
The Folder I am trying to copy is about 10GB

I have tried using a dedicated Sync program (FreeFileSync) but the same slowdown occurs ..

10GB off a SSD shouldn't take long. Is D: external? If so, are you using USB? Try a different port, or a different lead. Also, is D: nearly full? Is it fragmented? That's about as much as I remember from my Windows days. Been using Macs for 18 years.

the hotter the bits get the slower they go

low voltage causes heat

crook cables, dirty contacts overly twisted or tightly turned sata cables can exhibit those sorts of symptoms

as can lots of others things including a drive dying and putting out heaps of rf

I can tell you that I get 60 megabytes per sec using FFS over a gig ethernet connection(to NAS).
Never tried it on an internal, nor external HDD as yet(not need, nothing to sync in that sense.

To add further info on the questions re: capacity, and connection type(internal or US other things to look for.

What computer/parts/type/brand/ how much RAM ... etc.

Can you read with any decent speed from that D drive. i.e. transfer from D drive to C drive.

if the D drive is internal, or eSATA or any other non external connection type, can you figure out that hard drive's controller brand/type.
That is, if it's connected to a SATA(or other) port on the motherboard, is it on the same grouping as the C drive's port.
(many motherboards have multiple SATA controllers, they're will be groups of SATA ports controlled by different controllers).
How new(current) is the motherboard?

Another bit of software(free) to try is FastCopy. Simple to work out how it operates, and if you do try it, be sure to max out the bufffer(M option to 4000(max) or a high percentage of your available ram(not all of it tho). If you have 8Gb of RAM, a setting of 4000 in FastCopy is fine(that's what I use).
But in saying all that, I doubt this will help, as I'm doubting that FFS is the problem(but could be, ie. on your PC setup or something)

One other handy bit of software to download and use:

CrystalDiskMark if you don't already have disk benchmarking software.
It'll help you determine what the drive is capable of in terms of performance.
Use the portable zip file, so you don't have to install it(just run it from where you unzipped it).
Unzip it to the fastest drive(the SSD) and run it from there.
Just do the default tests that come up on the initial interface, and choose your drive.
Should have 4 test, which take an amount of time depending on the drive. slow drive = longer, faster drive = faster.
It then gives you the option to save the results as a text file.

I dont think its any of those Inc,, I dont KNOW its not,, but I just transferred 5gb from D to C at around 78 mb per sec,, then back again at the same speed,,

I reckon its WHERE and WHAT the files are thats the problem,,

you guys try to copy THAT folder,,
