Wouldn't you copy and paste them into XL?
Then do the change then copy and paste back into Word.

Hi All,
Filling out a tender doc that has a couple of xlsx things that need to be filled in.
Running office365 premium on a current MacBook. i.e. Word online.
Can get the xlsx files to kinda highlight in a grey box but not fully open to put stuff in.
Any ideas?
thanks, DL

Talking MS Office on a windows machine.
When an XL spreadsheet is embedded as on object within a word document you left click on it to select it. You then double click on to open the object up inside an instance of XL.
Alternatively, left click the XL object to highlight it. Then right click to reveal a drop down menu. From that menu select 'wordsheet object' and choose 'open' to open the object within an instance of XL.
Make your edits to the spreadsheet then close XL. Your edits will then be visible within word. Then save and close word. If you close word without saving, your edits within the XL spreadsheet will be lost just like edits to a word document are lost if word is closed without saving.
No idea about a Mac but the steps should be similar.

Thanks guys,
Can now copy the xl files but can't get them to open in excel.

Just to give the wash up on this problem:
Friends with PC's and Word 2008 could open all the tender doc just fine, including the 2 xlsx docs embedded.
Someone with the same current MacBook like mine could do the same using Office for Mac 2016.
In the end I was on the phone to a very patient Telstra tech lady who was driving my computer from abroad who told me that the tender doc was 'protected' and that why I couldn't open the xl files. Yeah right.
Anyway, the tender was done on a PC and submitted.
Cancelled 365 premium due to this stupid problem and bought Office 2016.
The other issues for me using 365 were the slight time lag that happens because everything is uploaded and done in the cloud and the insane amount of data allowance the process uses.
cheers, DL
