OziExplorer - Getting Tack File downladed on map from Android Tablet to PC

Following the recent EDJIT Adventure to Maralinga, I kept a tack file on Ozi for the trip. After loading this onto the 1:1million Australia map I can now see the track of the entire trip on the tablet.

The problem is I have no idea how to get this off the Android tablet and onto my PC so I can use it in the trip report or to add to the other EDJIT trip maps or future reference.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hi,
I use an App called FolderSync (paid version) to copy the daily track log to a folder on Dropbox which I can access on the PC.
I can also save files from the PC ( easier to work out potential trips with 2 big screens) and save them to a Dropbox folder which then syncs them to a folder in the data folder on the Android accessible to Ozi.
It took me a while to figure it out but now it is set and forget.

Assuming that you haven't altered the OziAndroid general settings on the tablet:

Connect tablet to PC and make sure on the PC it comes up as a device in Windows Explorer. The tablet will need to be set to MTP mode when connected to the PC.

If you have trouble connecting the tablet to the PC there is a long winded version of a better way to do so(can assist if required).

Now, assuming the tablet is connected to the PC, and it comes up as a device on the LHS device pane:

Look for the device, and if it has a micro SD card, you should see two entries for that device. One will be 'Card' and the other will be 'Tablet'.(or something along those lines, it's dependent on the tablet manufacturer I think)

Default config for Ozi should be in Tablet folder(ie on the devices internal memory) look for the OziExplorer folder.
In that folder are a ton of other files and folders. The one you're looking for is Data.

I've reconfigured mine many moons ago, so not 100% sure from here, but from memory it's either in there, or it may be in another folder named Tracklog inside that Data folder.

The tracklog is saved on a daily basis.

So for example if you took two days to travel to Maralinga, and say it was on 1/1/01 and 2/1/01, then for the whole track of that drive you need the two tracks names Tracklog 01-01-01 daily.plt and Tracklog 01-01-02 daily.plt

Obviously your dates will be when you logged those tracks.

Just copy and paste to the PC somewhere that you usually save tracks too, and open in PC Ozi.

If you need to stitch the two tracks together to make them continuous, this is easy in PC Ozi too.

I do the same with DropSync, which sounds like a similar product.
It all happens automatically when my tablet or phone is in range of my wifi, or I can force the sync rather than wait the specified interval for checking.

If you check your OziExplorer settings, Configuration --> General Settings, you'll see the Data File Path. Save you hunting about for it.

Thanks. There is 44 days worth of Track Logs. Have stitched them together in the tablet but will try your method of getting them onto the PC where hopefully on the PC version of Ozi I can nut it out

I have followed your steps however when I go into File Explorer I go into the folder in Ozi in Data called Tracklogs and there is only one PLT file. However when I go into Ozi on the tablet and go to the Operation Menu Tracks User Track List it is empty. The The Load User TrackLogs file however has about 50 files in there.

How do I get all the file into a folder that I can bring across to the PC? Even to see them all on the tablet on one map I have to reload them all one at a time every time. If I close down Ozi and then go back I have to do it all over again.

Again any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Weird!

So if you have 50 or so listings when you go to the "Load User Tracklogs" menu option, take note of the directory they're saved under.
when you hit the menu to get into the folder where those 50 tracklogs are saved too, look at the top of the screen where it says "... up one level"

I'm guessing there's a directory location issue going on, why you can't see them in one area, but see them listed in another!

Use the ... up one level directory option to locate where they've been saved too.

for example(and I've totally changed mine to suit my preference, so yours may be different!!) .. go up one level and it may take you from /tracklogs .. to /Data/tracklogs.
go up again and see where this takes you as well.

All you want to see/know, is: are the tracklogs saved to the ext SD card, or internal memory .... on the device.

Once you definitively locate where the 50 tracklogs .plt files have been saved too, connect the device to the PC via cable or whatever means you can, assuming you're PC will see the device navigate to the area where those .plt files have been saved too.

Connect device to PC:

If you have trouble connecting the PC to the device, I suggest(strongly suggest!) you find a program called MyPhoneExplorer(MPE). Download and install it for the PC and the app for the device(so MPE on both devices).
Do you have wifi? if not, then bluetooth or USB connection.
Makes a difference. Wifi is easy-er USB can be problematic on some devices due to device driver problems.

In MPE on the PC for the first time: open MPE and go to File->Settings. In the small popup box make sure the phone type is Google Android and then select the connection type manually in this box too. I've had issues using the Auto detect(due to the device, not the PC or software!).
Don't connect yet.
On the device now, open the MPE app. If your device is wifi enabled and on the wifi network, most of the work has been done, if you click MPE on the tablet one time, I think it only enbales it to 'listen' for a connection, look for it running in the background and tap it to open it up to check settings. IN the app window, it will list the connections it's made.
ie. if your tablet is already hooked into the wifi network, it'll show you this info in this screen.

Now go back to the PC with MPE and the settings page still open and choose the same connection type as you saw on the tablet. I prefer Wifi, but whatever works best for you.
press OK, then now in the main MPE window either press F1, where the PC will try to connect to the tablet, or File-> connect.

Hopefully all this works smoothly for 'ya to connect the tablet to the PC.

Question: why go to all this trouble to connect tablet to PC?
MPE's interface and ability to delve deeply into the Andoid's guts is many orders of magnitude better than what you will see via a Windows OS connection.
You can navigate to every directory on the Andorid device, without restriction. Some won't allow you to do do anything(like move files/folders), but also be warned that you have pretty much full access to the device so can 'muck it up' if you move system files.
In the 'connected' window now in MPE, on the LHS, you see a list of all the items you can use. Look for the Files section click that.

Noting again that my tablet is setup differently to yours .. I hit Files(on the LHS) then external storage. That's my 64G mSD card. I then hit Maps(I keep all my mapping stuff in this Map folder on my mSD card).
I then hit Data, then tracklogs. All my tracklogs are stored in this folder. That's how I set Ozi Android up for my usage.
My main usage for this is tracklogs, waypoint management, and to update maps as I tinker with them.

If you have an Android phone, by far the best device manager going around. It's all free, but I suggest a small donation if you end up using it.(I only donated measly $5 a million moons ago, but it's something).
Save all my phone stuff(txts, contacts, calendar .. everything really). Much better than Google's backup services, and device manufacturer backups.
