    try a usb style wifi adaptor and see if your problem persists

    you'll need to turn off the internal adaptor in your network adaptor settings

    something like one of these

    Thanks for that information - I have an older wifi USB stick that I use on an older desktop so I will give that a try.

    I found the solution today - it was as I thought, the check box in the wifi adaptor properties dealing with power usage had the turn the wifi adaptor off box to save power box ticked . So when on battery to save power it was switching off the wifi adaptor - this must be a default setting as I have not touched any of these at all.

    Thanks for all the suggestions - helped me work through the problem.
