    all in one printers

    Hi all,
Have been using Canon AIO printers for years, but like every thing else, there not built to last.

Can anyone recommend an AIO printer that will last more than a few months, that doesnt cost the earth in ink and will last at a few years?

As I tend to go for generic ink,HP is definately out,as I dont want to pay an exorbitant amount in ink replacements.

    TIA

In another thread I outlined my wows with a Canon MX 870 all in one that I had for a number of years - it worked, not trouble free and finally died. Inks were an issue - Canon very expensive, some aftermarket were cheap and clogged it up but other cheap inks worked really well. In the end got a death code and has never worked again.

House mate had a Brother MFC - 9335CDW full laser colour multifunction printer - is about $120 more expensive than a good Canon Ink AIO but the colour canisters last and last and last (thousands of pages) and after market are very cheap and work perfectly.

I am glad I have changed to the lazer and will never go back to an unreliable inkjet printer.

Have just switched to HP from Canon as the Canon ink prices are eye watering and the HP inks seem to be cheaper but I think they are pretty much all the same or close to be honest. The HP unit I’m using now is heaps more user friendly than my old Canon although that’s not to be unexpected given the 5 year difference in age. Only reason I didn’t go to a laser printer is this one came with my new GF and it works great, but I will upgrade to a laser printer when this one dies, I’m pretty over ink jets to be honest.

I like the email to print on the Canon and also the wireless setup was a snap - the Canon was a hopeless at this and required installed software to work whereas the HP just works, even from my tightly locked down work laptop.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

I am inclined to think that the less you print, the more reason there is to have a laser and the more you print, the more reason there is to have a laser.
If you don't print very often the startup cycle of an inkjet probably uses more ink than your print job. If you have weeks or even months between print jobs, laser toner does not dry out and clog jets like ink.
If you print a lot, toner is probably cheaper in the long run.
Years ago a friend gave me an old, basic mono HP laser. It ran for years on the same toner cartridge.
When it developed mechanical problems, I replaced it with a similar HP1110 laser. It suits me because I already have a separate scanner.
If the scanner dies, I will almost certainly buy a basic multi-function laser.
I know that wouldn't suit everyone. I have never needed to print colour and I sometimes go a month or two without printing anything.

I went to a monochrome laser - been great. I use generic cartridges - $23 for 2 cartridges. It's a Fuji DocuPrint M225DW. I had mostly Canon printers which were good, but the jets blocked up and I got sick of pulling them apart to unblock them. Worst thing I ever did was buy an epson - never again.

I mostly use aa HP multifunction inkjet printer. While not happy about the cost of cartridges, since I don't do a lot of printing, I am generally happy with it. A marked difference from Canon printers is that they seem not to get blocked jets if not used a lot. This is because the whole print head is in the cartridge. Quality is good, and it has been reliable, but it is getting hard to find cartridges now!

    Hi,
Ask your local laser recharge shop for their recommendation.
    Cheers
