well after a quick reformat,,,

the only thing it wont do is open a link from inside an email,, must have ticked the wrong box somewhere,,
any ideas??

so its not windows fault,, the newly reloaded OS
weighed in at 2.6GB

and now the PC is back to a reasonable state--
its 8.5GB

and i have NO idea how it grew,,
weeeeell,, the (old)Thunderbird folder in Documents and settings WAS 1.8GB

Thunderbird, View menu - message body as - html

Took forever to find it.
