Seagate 80Mb Portable HDD

I recently bought a case with power supply and cables for $30 and a new 120gb drive to go in it for $80 - all up cost only $110. One the drive is set up just plug in via the usb port to any computer.

Windows XP can screw up your network quite easily.
Don't run the Network Wizard, manually assign your network IP addresses and workgroup/domain
Been a while since I had to set up our network, can't recall exactly, but had some issues with XP initially, but got it sorted in the end.

We got a 1 terrabite USB external drive at work for $400

You do need drivers but if it is pre packaged then the drivers should come with it.
Thumb drives currently go up to 4gig.

most prepackaged usb external drives only come with 12month warranty... way better to buy drive on its own and then get external case, drive has 5yr warranty then :P

What to do? What to do?

A 1Gb (or 2 Gb) thumbdrive would cover many of my uses. The laptop only has a 40 Gb drive so it's a bit limiting - that's why I considered the pocketable Seagate..

Flamin' ridiculous, ain't it. I remember when a 5Mb HDD was big (the days of my Dick Smith System 80 Business Computer).

If you're after small and easily portable (ie in your top pocket) go thumbdrive.
If your after capacity, go the external drive.
Plus hdds have good shock protection these days, when you power down they park in a 'safe' zone, and unless you dropped it powered up it should be reasonably safe.

Depends on how much YOU value YOUR data.

I have a huge amount, that to me is of extremely high value, so to me

It's a very good investment.

Hi Ron,

I recently bought a 1 GIG USB stick for my wife @ $38... Office Works had them. If you check their specials catalogues, they might come up with a USB HDD! Alternatively a puter swap meet is good, buy a USB case and pair it up with whatever size laptop drive you like ;-)
