    Help for new Mac user

My wife has just bought a Mac PowerBook G4 from our daughter (who has upgraded).

I've got no idea how to set it up for mail access etc. I'm even having trouble getting it to connect to the network. The daughter is in Derby and she'd bite my head off for asking for help.... (anyone with a 22-yo daughter will undertstand).

I find the Mac totally foreign and user-unfriendly and I need assistance.

Is there anyone ther who'd accept a phone call or three for help.

    Ron (committed Windows/DOS user)

You're not wrong. It's completely foreign territory.

    Thanks Josh.

    Some stuff now sorted.

However I can't figure out the keychain bit. The help file mentions the Accounts preferences pane - I can't find it!

    The help file also says:

    1. Open Keychain Access, located in Applications/Utilities.
    2. Choose File > New Keychain.
    3. Type a name and choose a location for the keychain, then click Create.
    4. Type a password for the keychain. For help in choosing a good password, click the key button to the right of the Password field to open the Password Assistant.

    Where the heck is Applications/Utilities?

Bugger. I closed Internet Explorer on the Mac and dunno how to find it to open it again. The Mac doesn't have a Start button and a menu of programs that I can find.

    Bloody mongrel of a thing.

To open IE either get that floaty thing up on the bottom of the screen and wave the mouse over it until an IE icon jumps up at you.

Or, click on the hard drive and find the applications folder.

Or, click on the apple thingy, top left corner, down about halfway is a recent applications thing.

You should also be able to find utilities folder near the applications folder.

    Cheers
    Simon.

double=click your hard drive and a window will open... it probably has the application folder on the left hand pane... otherwise just scroll through the list of items till you see applications.

Also last night i had you using Safari, not IE... it was the icon that looks like a compass in the dock at the bottom of your window.

basically just drag any of the applications you'll use regularly into that dock... and drag out the ones you won't to clean it up.

Also if you go up to the apple top left, down to dock.. you can tell it to disappear so it only pops up when you put your mouse down there... or can shift it to a side if easier.
