Was that permission to access other computer or permission to establish network?

Did you set up the new user to get into the other computer after you reinstalled?

    Cheers

OK, dare i say it at this point if you know someone with a small network it might be worth taking them for a day trip and trying to put each computer on a known working network and get them working individually. Problem is now, a minor fault on either and both of them don't work.

Windows networking is very fiddly as you know and the smallest thing will sink you. If you were in Bris you'd be welcome to pop around. (I'm not saying I'm a expert but I have a working network here (PC and Mac) so that's a start)
