    PDA USB input

    Hi all,

I need to connect a data device to a PDA. We have the PDA (Ipaq HX2790) and the software etc.

Essentially I need to plug a USB device into the PDA.
Can you get an adapter for this?
Either connecting through the bottom of the unit or the CF or SD slot?

    Thanks.

Depends very much on the PDA. As a general rule, adaptors as hard to come by, or they were. I can't speak for the Ipaq's, it seems to vary so much by models. Some have adaptors. I had a Toshiba e750 with a plug-in USB hosting adaptor, model specific. You may do better to try hosting the device through a Bluetooth printer driver. Otherwise you might find a CF adaptor, or be able to get a CF-to-PCMCIA adaptor and a PCMCIA USB card.

I have got an O2 Flame PDA Phone and it has a cable that connects to a USB key or similar device and can transfer between the two.

The Toshiba adaptor was $200 some 3-4 years ago (mind you, it also did VGA out).

I remember the Toshiba one. I have a Toshiba E570 (I think) that I use with Oziexplorer and Destinator in my car.

The main problem is that this is for work (Govt). We only got the PDA today and we didn't think of this before

Oh yeah...the field trip starts tomorrow afternoon

The one I linked to above is 8-10 days ex-USA.
Although only US$140 plus postage if we ordered it ourselves.

Is this like what you have Wrex?

Not compatible with the 27xx series.
Although this one does not have a built in GPS.

Utemad, does that model Ipaq suit a PCMCIA expansion sleeve? Getting one of those and a PCMCIA USB card might work out better in the long run, though more expensive in the sort term. Plus the parts should be available now.

My Ipaq ( rx5965 ) has a standard mini-USB connector that's used for charging and data transfer. Your model must be a different design I guess.

I searched for sleeves but didn't come up with anything for that model.

Probably don't make one as it has inbuilt CF and SD slot already.
