    toshiba laptop HELP

    having some problems

    i have a toshiba satellite pro 4600

a guy at work has pointed out my cpu is only running at 318MHz...problem is it should be running at 650MHz

we have reloaded the software, removed the battery, changed the power settings

have i lost a side or a half of something, are cpu's built in parellel so if one bit breaks she can keep running

i have checked the fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs and leads, checked the headgasket and suprisingly there is no oil in the harness

Just a though, in your BIOS does it allow you to change the fsb/clock multiplier, if so just change the setting till it reflects the actual mhz of your machine.

See this wiki for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_multiplier

WARNING: IF MULTIPLIER PLACED HIGHER THAN THE FACTORY SETTINGS, IT IS THEN CLASSED AS OVERCLOCKING AND VOIDS MOST WARRANTIES, THERE IS ALSO A DANGER OF DESTROYING PROCESSOR AND POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD TOO AS LAPTOPS DON'T HAVE THE COOLING CAPABILITY TO OVERCLOCK NORMALLY!!!

You have been warned....but good luck

    Cheers

Toshiba, never ever again. Nothing but problems, on 3rd hard drive, battery has not held charge since 12 months old, screen has gone blank ($1200 to replace), invertor replaced twice. Biggest POS out Satellite A10.

The second-last word is the key. Toshiba have business (good) and consumer (very ordinary) lines. Toshiba Tecra or Portege are good quality as are IBM (now Lenovo). Second hand info - from my computer tech brother. I have a Tecra - had a mainboard go bung and the battery is cactus after 2 years (but no battery survives being left in a laptop). Mainboard replaced under warranty. I've got a ten year old Toshiba still with original hard drive, runs fine - pity it's just B&W!
