Don't think so. I've got 2 in my HTPC under XP Pro and don't recall any dramas.
anything special/different about starting up a PC for the first time with a SATA2 HDD?

None at all, except depending on the MOBO if you have an IDE installed as well it might default to the IDE, go figure?
What you might want to look out for is if you have a Maxtor drive, (some others too) they have a very small jumper on the back near the power socket. It reduces the speed from 3Gb to 1.5Gb for older systems.
If your mobo accepts the new 3Gb HDD remove the jumper.
will check----

I have this problem, I have both a sata and ide drive and although both drives work fine and can access them, I cannot get it to boot off the sata. It is not an option in the bios.

Yes but what it does is boot off the IDE then points to the SATA.
In some of the older BIOS's it wasn't an option to boot from the SATA so you needed an IDE drive to boot from (well really it's just loading a boot loader, but lets not get overly-complicated).
Thanks for the ideas guys, will check it out when I can be bothered pulling off the side cover and having a look.
Sorry about the Hi-Jack Pedro.
