Need assistance from a Mac user

My wife uses a Mac iBook. I'm useless with it!

She needs to access a shared folder (iTunes music folders) on my Windows desktop via the network.

Yesterday we could find the network and the iTunes folder.

Today, there's no way we can find it. We can't even see the network even though the WiFi connection is on and she can go via the router to the 'Net.

Every time I have to use the blasted Mac I fell like throwing it in the bloody bin. I get really, really cranky every time I have to touch it as it is such a pig of thing to drive.

Can I ring someone for help?

Did you let it sit on the network connection for to little a time? I find when connecting my mac folders to window it often takes longer then when win to win systems are used.

Other option is to burn a cd and move info like that? It's an ancient but easy option.

I'd say call but truth be known I'm not sure I can help over phone I'll go have a look at mine now and see if can work out anything which might help.

We've now found the Network icon but clicking it doesn't seem to do anything.

OK, I'll try clicking and leaving it for a while. Yesterday we could see mshome then the iTunes folders.

Sounds like Windows has turned on the firewall and blocked the Mac.

I've noticed this happen recently when running the network setup wizard. It doesn't even tell you which is very sneaky.

    Cheers

But why? The Win XP machine hasn't been turned off for the past 4-5 of days as it's been torrenting.

are you using DHCP or static IP's?
If you are using DHCP maybe you have just been allocated a new IP and they now no longer see each other?

    It's a 1.33 GHz PowerPC G4 laptop with OS 10.4.11

Re the link, I'll check that out, Dave. Thanks very much.

I tried copying the music from the iTunes music folder on the desktop to a DVD and loading those directly with iTunes on the Mac but that's hopeless. iTunes will only allow one track at a time to be selected for import to the Mac. One can't select the whole album nor can one tag multiple tracks for importing.

I've tried every conceivable combination of keys with the mouse buttons. I assumed that something like Ctrl-click or even Shift-Click would have worked but, no, one track is all that can be selected.

Oh, give me Windows any time.

you can add a folder to itunes library then use the consolidate library function to put them all in one folder you nominate as your library folder...
