I would move items from my documents on c drive to your d drive and try the disk cleanup wizard if your primary partition is 10gb you would have to repartition your drive but you would lose all data

    Steve,

If its a laptop and you have two drives I assume it has one HDD that's been partitioned, which is a bummer for you in this case.

First up, find out which drive your OS is on. Probably C drive.
Open explorer, go to the OS drive, right click to properties and see how much space you've got.

    Delete all unwanted files.
    Empty the recycle bin.
Run a disk cleanup on the OS drive.
Defrag the OS drive (optional but should be done on a regular basis).

Once done, open explorer again, go to the OS drive, right click to properties and see how much space you've now got.

    Cheers.

Delete all but the most recent System Restore point - in the advanced options in the disk clean up wizard. You can go into C:\windows and delete the $ folders, they're all the stuff from update packages. That is, as long as everything is running well.

If you run a network, and can maintain your own gear, you can delete C:\i386 - windows installation files - it means you need a windows disk to install stuff, but on a 10G drive you haven't got much option.

Clear the browser cache and history.

    Cheers

    Hi Stevo

I'd try the abovementioned cleanups first but sooner or later you are going to need a program like Partition Magic or Acronis to help repartition C drive to utilise the unused space. Both these programs should retain the data already in existance on C. There may be a freeware option around or you might want to have a look for one of Inc's post about disk drive tools.

    Good luck

Try downloading Nlite and make an install disk removing useful windows stuff that clutters the hdd. Search the forum for Nlite and it'll come up with the link, great stuff, just do it on a RW disk, it might take a few goes to get it right. Makes the whole thing run faster, too.

Of course that would mean a clean install.

Can't remember what the program is, but there is something that'll grab all your driver files from the laptop so you can put them into the Nlite package and don't have to go hunting the web for them.

And ghost the old drive first.

    Cheers
    Simon
