I've got quite an old generation of Nano but I don't remember installing any drivers except for iTunes...... (which, thankfully, now supports Vista-64)
Well Vista it would appear is reeking havoc with my toys and now will not recognise my Nano and probably my 60gig too (have not plugged this in yet) Can;t locate my Nano CD so can anyone tell me or give me a link to get the drivers for my Nano. The Apple web site will not let me do itand for some reason is just way too slow. Any help would be appreciated. I have the CD for my 60g so should get round that one, but don't want to plug it in yet until my full library is back on my lap top.

Hey Grizzly, yeah mine is the older style one too, but when connecting it to my note book, it asks me intall my CD to get the drivers. Of course, i've missplaced my CD and can't find a fix anywhere. Can it really be this hard for Vista to just work with everything everybody has![]()

I have an 80 gig Ipod and I bought my daughter a 2 gig Nano for Christmas. neither came with a CD. Just install Itunes and Itunes should pick up that an Ipod is connected.
Yes, you would think it was that easyJust finished removing and re-installing iTunes......but to no avail. Vista is determined to ruin my life
Spoke to the guy where I bought the nano and he had never come across this probelem before (which I find hard to believe as a couple of Google searches have revealed that I am not alone). Would anyone on here by any chance subscribe to Windows Vista and iPod Nano Driver Issue : Apple, Apple, ipod nano, 2gb, 1st generation, can't locate driver for ipod
I don't want to join, but it would appear that perhaps my answer lies behind this web linkAnyone kind enough with a subscription willing to click on this link and report back for me. If the Apple guys can't help me, this may be my only chance to stop the mounting frustration
Please oh please someone come to my rescue......and while you're at it, burn my vista machine.
Well after some debate, it's back to XP for me.......and do you know what I feel quite excited at the prospectI have a reasonable machine which by all accounts should be much faster etc running XP over Vista. I'll come back to Vista down the track of course but for now, I just need something that works as it should with the way I live and work.
My dinosaur home machine running XP is infintely more stable and faster than my up to the minute note book.....so, lets hope the down grade does what I need and my problems are resolved.
Will report back soon![]()
G'day Mick,
Have you read this article on the whirlpool.net forums?
Ipod Vista Drivers? - iPod - Music Lounge
Some possibilities quoted on there are:
The answer - after three days of trying with the same problem....
it would appear that VISTA is rather stupid when it comes to the ipod - it can't find the driver for itself. Do the normal autmatic way of trying to find the driver then look in the hardware device list (control panel) you should see you ipod listed under other devices with a yellow triangle next to it. right click this line and select properties. then click update device driver. then DON't do the automatic find, instead click i will choose the device from a list. Click on "storage device" and voila! VISTA now finds a USB mass storage device and install it - JOB DONE! HOORAY!
good luck!
Mark.I eventually got around it another way. It seemed that Vista wasn't looking for the drivers in the correct place. I just waited for the wizard to ask for the location of where the files are located, and typed in C:\WINDOWS\System32. Then the computer installed the drivers properly (detected and installed as ipod). Then another found new hardware popped up and i also pointed it to C:\WINDOWS\System32. This installed as generic volume. So all fixed!
Above, I was asked to type C:\WINDOWS\INF - That did not work.OK, Microsoft have stated that they have noticed and will be updating in the next service pack for vista, but no date on when that will be yet, but there are a couple of solutions
1. make sure you have directed the driver search to c:\windows
if this doesnt work
2. do an advanced search, and check all sub directors, indexed and hidden files, and search for USBSTOR.inf, once found copy this file and go in explorer to c:\windows\inf and paste a copy here.
if this still doesnt work
3. again do and advanced search with all options checked and search for INFCACH.1
once located make sure you have correct permissions set and delete this file, then attempt steps 1 and 2 again.
passed this point if you still cant find any usb mass storage devices all i can suggest is to check support with manufactors website or wait untill M$ releases the service pack update.
of note this is a mainly a common problem on nforce and nvidia chipset MOBO`s
hope this helps someone as it took me 3 weeks to sort this myself but following the above i have sorted this.
Good luck Mick! I hate to see anyone go "back" in an O/S release
Sorry I couldn't respond sooner - work an' all that![]()
