As mentioned avoid ATI, stick to anything with an Nvida chipset, (except sparkle).

Off topic slightly, may I suggest spending say $100 or so on your video card and with whats left get another 1GB of ram?
1GB on XP is OK but I think you may benefit more "all round" by increasing you ram and reduce the size of your swap file from standard.
More so if you are a game player.
    IMO

I agree with HangOver, well almost… Get the RAM for $50 – $70 and keep the remainder of your $150.00 ($80.00 to $100.00) in reserve for a video card if you’re still not happy. I’m confident I’d be able to advise better (or at least have awesome resources to draw on) to help you with more detailed specs on your current machine. I’m new to the 4WD forums but have been involved in building/upgrading machines (as a hobby) and contributing to IT forums for many years.

PS. Whilst I didn’t want to appear bias, Nvidia all the way… especially for the mid to low range cards (AGP).

    xpertvision agp $41

No difference between ati or nvidia at this level under xp

My system is a Intel 3 Gigahertz, 1 GB RAM running Windows XP. The current video card is an ATI Radeon 9800SE running an omega driver.

I am using it for the odd game, mostly 1st person shooters, currently Half Life Episode 1 (which for some reason keeps crashing at the same spot).

I have been looking on Ebay but quite frankly have no idea if this, that or the other card is better. Can anybody pls have a look on Ebay and advise, I am looking at spending about $150 max.
