I don't like Netcomm or Thompson.
Never had a problem with D-link or Netgear, and the user interface on both is about as straightforward as network devices gets.

OK I'm off to search the whirlpool forum, but I was wondering what others have?
My Speedstream that Bigpuddle supplied some years back is about at end of life, so I'm going to have to get a new modem. Given my past experience with Belkin and D-Link equipment they won't be high on my list of manufacturers.

Well there are loads out there
................however (to my cost) I have found that if you have a BYO ADSL modem the buggers won't support you.
Telstra will blame it on your modem - and the modem manf. will say it's a Telstra issue.
So the last time mine died - I went back to Telstra to supply it - yes - more expensive - but you don't have them trying to wriggle out of support.
I now have the SpeedStream 6250 - c/with wireless - so Telstra also have to support my wireless connections as well !!!!!
For the extra you pay - you do end up with a slightly better peace of mind
I've got a netcomm NB5 modem and a Netcomm NB600W wireless router - never had problems with either, but then I'm not with small puddle either :-)
Unfortunately I think you'll find good and bad reports with most - especially given how many there are out there!
good luck

I've got a Belkin ADSL2+ 4 port wireless router/modem which works a treat. I've had two Dlink's in the past and wouldn't touch them again. Too many heat and power supply problems.
netcomm couldnt make a decent adsl modem to save their lives..
so they bought dynalink last year and now rebadge them as well as continuing to sell the dynalink branded product. sadly they have moved the dynalink manager to a new position selling dslams so their market share will slide with their netcomm culture in charge..
dynalink are very highly regarded esp the wireless units...
i believe telstra are now rebadging their 3g router offering...

Get another Telstra one I think. I have their wireless one and it is the first good modem/router I have ever owned. Dlink was crap as was Belkin although the other good one I can think of is linksys which I did not own but had a lot to do with for many months and performed very well.

I have a combo ADSL/Wireless router from SMC.
Never had a drama setting it up or keeping it working, simple menu system and plenty of features to exploit if you want.
I've got an NB5+4 Netcomm modem/router ,I seem to experience drop outs at have data Flow issues and having to reset the router by removing the power or pressing reset button , I've tested my line , not a line issue either ( I work for Telstra ) I don't recommend Netcomm.
All sorted, getting a new one from BigPond at a very reduced cost. Like ladas suggested, also the 2 Wire units have a good reputation - pity they are only available through ISP's.
Didn't need WiFi as I just replaced my wireless router with a Time Capsule, which is very, very nice and very, very fast
Thanks everyone!
