    registry cleaners

I've used CCleaner for years and just deleted everything,, never had a problem.

(True to form) I've found a (beta)regestry cleaner from COMODO and seeing I use its firewall product I thought I'd give it a burl,,

ran CC before hand and came up with 3 items to clean,,
ran COMODO and its found over 2000,,,

is this one of those products thats trying to scare me into paying money??

not sure I want to delete 2000 errors---

    Registry? Don't use them!

But I feel your suspicions are right - surely even Windows couldn't have that many registry errors (or could it?)

Make a backup of your registry before you do anything.

2000 sounds like a lot unless you are installing and uninstalling a lot of software.

I get annoying pop-up Registry errors messages about cleaning up the Register almost every minute.
Would "CCleaner" stop these? Is it freeware? I have run many of those downloadable registry cleaners which find hundreds of errors then they want my credit card number before it'll clean them.

As with Pedro, I'm very suspicious. I do not trust them.

I really only want these pop-ups to go away (for free) I dont even know what a registry is!

Have run Ad-Aware and Spybot and Avast anti-virus (all freeware) but cannot stop the damn registry pop-ups.

funnily enough it will be all those "other" registry programs
    popping up after your money!!

get into your control panel, find the programs (or whatever your version of windows calls it) and DELETE everything you think is not necessary

It depends on how they define errors. Most likely, a lot are nothing more than MRU entries or missing shortcuts. Even a simple install and uninstall of a prgram can leave loads of orphaned entries though, so 2,000 isn't a huge number depending on what they are.

I personally don't bother using them, but if you do, take a proper backup first!
