    Looking for laptop

    Hi all,
It has come to pass that just one computer in the house is not enough.
So, having the desk top working fantasmagorrically downstairs, with all the standard stuff, being the one used by the kids as well for games etc, I thought, maybe a laptop for upstairs.
It would be used only for internet browsing and chat, email etc. No graphics intensive stuff as thats what downstairs is for!
So when the kids are hogging downstairs, the wife or I can gently surf or do assignments etc upstairs in the quiet.

Anyway, I am thinking second hand. Anyone any suggestions or ideas? Using a netgear wireless router so no probs there as only usb needed.
(Yes Inc, I am with Optus but hey no-ones perfect)

Where do u buy second hand IT gear? I have only bought new so not sure where to go or who to ring. Not keen on e-bay as I like to see what I am buying IT wise.

    Regards
    Ralph

Our local , Mr Laptop, has seven or eight reconditioned models, all under
$700. Probably a store near you that you could phone or try Harvey
    Norman.
    Cheers.

I've been looking around recently for a new laptop and it looks to me like Gray's Online is the go. They have heaps of yesterday's model, still almost current, new with warranty, I reckoned I could get something I liked for around $500-600.

The cheapies at Officeworks, Dick Smith, etc. all seem to be Celeron processors.

At that kind of price it doesn't seem worthwhile to save the money on a second hand laptop with a hard drive that's a couple of years old, and no warranty.

    Cheers

Have a look at the auctions. Three year old end-of-lease laptops such as Dells, HPs and Toshibas typically go for $300-$400. I've bought a few Dells for myself and family members and all are going well.

For just over $1,000 you can get a 2nd hand Panasonic CF-18 Toughbook. Military spec titanium cover; gel mouted HDD; water / dust proof; touch screen, folds back on itself to form a tablet PC..... Makes an ideal travelling companion in a Land Rover. Down side is no CD drive, small key board (but you do have a touch screen).
