Question for users of MP3 players

    Hiya,

I'm a big fan of podcasts (helps pass the time stuck in traffic) and I use an Iriver T10 MP3 player; an important feature of which is the ability to delete files on the run.

I need to get another player for the Mrs but am struggling to find an MP3 player that has the "delete on the run" ability.

Would appreciate any advice on a current model MP3 player that can do this.

    Cheers.

I'd recommend getting an iPod - in iTunes you change the settings to only keep the current podcast...then every time you sync the iPod only the latest podcast is synced - the rest are deleted.

I'm also a fan of the iPod. Despite its almost market saturation I do believe it is functionally the simplest MP3 unit to use and iTunes is also very good without having to add anything to it.

I use podcasts when travelling and for those radio shows I just don't get to listen to and yes they do also delete as mentioned.

I hate Ipods & the way I hear they tag music files for copy right.

Keep looking at the creative range. That is the company I have always stood by & recommended, after all they started out making sound cards

(Does an Ipod HAVE to have mp3's copied to it via itunes-suxyourmemory&crashes-program or will it act like a USB drive & be done with it?)

That's what I do. Also you can select only certain podcasts to sync.

Go a iPod. They are cheap and great. I have 3. One for the car, gym and my iPhone.

    iPod all the way!

Also, I'm not sure about if you have a PC but if you have a mac you can get it to sync full size copies of your photos onto the ipod (depending on model) so you always have an off site backup of your photos

Trouble with iPods is they last about a month more than the warranty.

We have had 3 go bung. Luckily 1 was under warranty at about the 11th month, but they only give you the remaining warranty on the replacement (so 1 month for us) even though it is a new unit.

Have had numerous friends with the same reliability issues. There must be a mountain of dead iPods somewhere in the world.

Have gone over to a Sansa now (Made by SanDisk - no moving parts) and this has been bulletproof.

That's interesting. I've got a 3 year old one that's still going strong. I'll consider myself on borrowed time!

We've got a mountain of iPod and other Apple gear in our family. The only iPods we've had die are from battery failures. The batteries get replaced with Jaycar ones and they all still work.
I'm not a huge Apple fan like others in the family but I find the iPod is the best of what is out there in terms of usability although would like some delete functions on the unit itself.

You can use the iPod as a USB storage device but only for storage. I don't think you can access these file from the iPod itself. Not on mine anyway.
