I'm with westnet. Australian call centers and they actually listen their customers. Price is better than that offered by the big two out our way.
The plot thickens I have now had about 10 calls to Telstra and 10 to Optus.
recapping last week.
Called Telstra to say what can you do? Girl said congrats you can have cable at $94. This after 3 hangups by computer on switch to consultant. She then says I will double check. Hangs up after me waiting 10 mins.
I send email to complaints , who say look at the web for offers. I email back saying hopeless reply, and Telstra says talk to customer service.
So nothing achieved.
So go to Optus.
Fill in web form. Fails at last screen. Get email saying have account, but when I try to log on, it needs an account number which I don't have.
Talk to consultant who takes details again and says it takes 10 days and I lose my number. GRRRRR! but OK. Leaves message but nobody knows her when I ring back. No record of orders.
OK, I do the web order again, and get a NUMBER.
Ring pre activation. Told they will ring me with date.
They ring back. There is a problem with the number, which I know. Explain That I know.
Ahh BUT, there is a bigger problem. Telstra will not release the number because I have fax stream and voicemail, so Optus's computer makes it a failed transaction
NOW GET THIS.
I have to cancel my Voicemail and faxstream and then REAPPLY to Optus on the day that Telstra has advised they will disconnect. NOT the day before.
Then I will be without voicemail for 10days while Optus get their act into gear to install my package.
In the middle of this I have had 2 women from Telstra call me to tell me that I cannot have cable, the most recent today.
I think I have given up.
I also have 2 on line financial accounts raised by Optus , which I highlighted to their guy who said don't worry they will be cancelled as Optus cannot complete.
I somehow do not think I have heard the last of it.

I hear your pain mate, my last episode with optus was when i got my phone for my new business. I went in to the local optus business centre and picked the phone and package i wanted and got them to activate my business account for me, i sat there for over an hour while the poor bloke accross the desk got into countless arguments with the optus callcentre rep about who knows what.......
Took my new phone home, works great, happy as, then a few days later i get a letter in he post from optus stating that unfortunately they cannot aprove my application for a phone account
Needless to say that after more calls to optus to find out what was going on i'm still none the wiser, they have no record of the letter sent out......
Bring back the old days when you could get by without having to be contactable 24/7!!!
None can say I am not persistent.
OK I cancelled my Duet line and deluxe voicemail with Telstra then I reapplied to Optus. This means in theory that my number is now transferrable.
Put in the application after the Telstra line was cancelled, and I received an Optus order confirmation.
BUT the order confirmation email had the reference number as -1 on it. Knowing Optus this means there is some glitch.
Its been a few days now with nothing heard so looks like I get on the phone on Monday and follow up, yet again.
The silly and annoying bit is that each application I have submitted to Optus has asked for an email address and user and password, then their system remembers all of them and they cannot be used again. It even has my email address from when I had cable over two years ago.
So I am fast running out of easily remembered user names, passwords and email addresses.
If I cannot get some action this time it may over to iinet. even though Iinet is dearer.
Regards Philip A
not sure if you have tried these guys but they have some reasonable plans for lower usage and i have found the customer service to be very good for the last 8 years
cheers

I had an Optus cable and phone line some years ago and had no problems.
I was looking to take all my business back to them as I too am on Telstra. However I bought an iphone with them recently and the network was so bad I had to return the phone.
I'm afraid this put me off. Telstra is expensive, but usually works.![]()
