Are you sure you mean bios? Bios is mostly a way of telling various parts of the computer what kind of hardware is attached to it. Unless you're trying to overclock it the bios really shouldn't affect your computer using experience.

Do you mean the proprietary software that is supplied with the computer, the update service, the diagnostics, etc. It appears in the Start menu along with everything else. That you can do without.

    Cheers

I take it you mean the very annoying IBM blue screen you get on start up. Saw this on a geek forum.....it might help.

On my IBM I am using right now I would do the following

    1) F1 at startup to enter Bios
    2) Right arrow over to Startup menu
    3) Arrow down to "Power On Logo (Enable / Disable)"
    4) Choose disable
    5) Right arrow over to Exit menu
    6) Arrow down to "Save and exit" and <enter>
    7) Choose yes when prompted

Ah, he's right. That page is stored in the bios, not on hdd.

Pretty sure it will still be there - just turn it off in the BIOS

The bios is contained in a ROM permanently on the motherboard and without the BIOS your PC won't work. The only way to change it is to go through a process called Flashing the Bios.

You could try & find what manufacturer made your motherboard and get the exact model number of their equivalent (if it exists), download the proprietary BIOS and use that to flash yours. If you get it wrong you basically end up with a very ineffective boat anchor for a PC. I would strongly recommend NOT trying to do this unless you were about to buy a new motherboard and had nothing to lose.

Reformatting the HDD won't make any difference to the IBM logo being displayed at boot.

If you did what DiscoCam said, including the save and exit, it will stay turned off. If it doesn't then you MIGHT have a dead CMOS battery but you'd only see this symptom if you've removed AC power for a while.

BTW, how annoying can a logo be?
