    DVD PLayer skipping/freezing

    Hiya,

I've got an LG DV7711P DVD player which skips/freezes often when playing DVDs I've burnt myself and sometimes on rented DVDs. The problem often, but not always, happens towards the end of the movie and is fixed (sometimes) by cycling the power on the player.

I've researched a bit on this and it seems a common issue caused by the player's reader needing cleaning (Do they need to be cleaned?) or a buffering issue within the player itself.

I always use brand name DVD-R media.

Insights, suggestions would be appreciated or it's off to by a new one.

I can't see why a dirty lense would cause more problems towards the end of a movie.... Does it do it on a clean commercial DVD?

My Pioneer PVR did the same thing...

Chucked in a cleaning disc.. Ran it twice...

    No more problems...

Mind you, it hadnt been cleaned for about 4 years!!!

    Runs like a dream now.

From what I can gather the higher quality (expensive) the DVD player the more sensitive they are to burnt DVDs, and hence more problematic. Not sure if they are more sensitive to dust etc.

I know very little re: dvd readers apart from the theory behind them.
The only reason I mentioned lens cleaners is because my DVD player stopped playing DVD, all of them put in the DVD and nothing.
Anyhow one lens clean later it plays them, they arounbd about $10 worth a shot. Saying that a DVD players about $40
BUT $40 I'd rather spend else where personally
