    Unhappy clean but dead phones

    G'day,

Have done the very same twice in past 6 months...damn those phone pockets.

Both were the Nokia 5210 (me thinks), slightly ruggedised looking unit. First was totally rooted. Second one was two weeks ago....phone went through wash and rinse and was still on!. Turned it off, rinsed, dismantled it, dried and put in plastic bag overnight with silica gel sacks.

Lost its image memory and the 3 and 9 buttons didn't work....ever tried sms'ing without using d,e,f and x,w,y,z?

Phones aren't that resistant to the ravages of water against electrics. Claim on house insurance, update your contract or take in on the chin and get a new handset....she's had the bomb.

My old man got his flip phone wet. A month later he gave it to my brother. My brother has a mate who is very computer illiterate, he pulled it apart, cleaned all the corrosion off the contacts and had it working again

So it is possible if you have the time and patience

    Hi aew;

I wouldn't have thought that one would make the same mistake twice , once was painful enough
I know I'm for ever checking and double checking all the pockets to make sure there is nothing else left in pockets , specially a mobile phone .

Re: Insurance Claim , I'll give em a call on Monday , But I'm not sure if one would be able to put a claim through for something like that?

Jock , Don't you mean he is Computer "Literate"

I pulled mine apart immidiately the next day after drying the phone and gave a good spray with Contact cleaner , all the components and copper tracks

Put it all back together again.

It did "Squat" , Sadly the Phone is Gooone when you switch it on ,"LCD Screen" , all you see are a few lines , that's it.

My mobile phone is covered by my house contents insurance...

I've claimed once before when it fell out the window after sliding across the dash...

RACV Home Insurance wouldn't put my wet Canon camera through.

Wife hates it She drew the line when I wanted to keep the motorbike in the lounge room...

But yes, covered under 'portable property'...

They even replaced my silver bracelet I lost driving back from Warrnambool last year.... Yes, it wore the clasp through and fell off my wrist near Mt Gambier... Didnt notice till the next stop

    Re: insurance Claim

For those of you who may be interested , I've contacted my insurance company this afternoon to submit a claim and am told that my home content policy doesn't cover my mobile phone being put through the "washing machine" , it has not been listed as an "Item" UNDER "Special Events" in the "Home Content" insurance policy
