    Ripping DVD Audio

Can anyone point me in the direction of free software that will rip the audio from a dvd and turn it into an MP3?

    Thanks

    Hi Garry
    I have used both
FreeRIP from mgshareware: home of FreeRIP (ver 3 available now)
    and
EAC (Exact Audio Copy) from Introduction Exact Audio Copy
    with reasonable success.

Another usefull tool for editing is Audacity from
Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

    Regards, Chris

    Garry,

Wouldn't normally recommend MS but Windows Media Player will rip to mp3

I use Nero Pro although I believe they have a free version of Nero too.

    Cheers

Yep media palyer does it easily, you have to search in MP to find the mp3 setting - its not up front.

Are you referring to the Audio tracks off a DVD or to the actual format "DVD Audio"? AFAIK audio tracks from DVD aren't an issue, but the DVD Audio format I've tried and it's an absolute nightmare to try and rip

Oooops - Yes just re-read the original question and missed the 'DVD' question. Thought you were talking about audio CDs.

Not sure if WMP will rip to mp3. I've got an Eagles DVD that I tried to get on my Ipod with no success. So please withdraw my above suggestions and I will watch this thread with interest.

Thanks for the comments - not talking about audio tracks copied to a dvd disk but talking about a video DVD like you buy in a shop where audio is embedded in the "VOB" files contained in a "VIDEO_TS" folder.

I have few music DVDs and would like to rip the sound tracks to play in the car.

    Thanks

I've pulled the audio out of DVDs to play as audio only, but it was a while ago, and no idea what I did. I put it all into itunes, so maybe it was just an itunes thing. I don't recall it being difficult.

I'd also love to know how to rip DVD Audio discs to MP3, or CD even. I've got a pile of discs that are just about useless.

    Google "DVD Audio Ripper".
This program will rip the audio from a DVD & convert to MP3 etc.

Thanks Bruiser but I am after something free - the unregistered version will only do 5 minutes of files and only half of files under 5 minutes long.

    I will keep "Googling"

    Cheers
